What's a good hotel location in Barcelona?

I'm going to a conference at the AC Barcelona, Paseo Taulet, 278, 08019, and my wife is accompanying me. I'd like to stay at a hotel that has lots of touristy goodies nearby, so my wife can walk around safely and not have to worry about negotiating transportation. I don't mind if it's far from the conference. The AC Barcelona is too pricey, by the way, even with their special conference rate of 225 Euros/night.

I went to a conference at the AC Barcelona last year, I stayed with a company called Dailyflats, they do short stay accomodation in Barcelona, I think they have apartments in the Forum area where the AC is located but the last time I stayed near to Sagrada Familia in an apartment with Dailyflats, it took about 15 minutes to reach the AC by metro which was just five minutes walking from the Apartment. If you know Barcelona you'll realise that it's not very large in terms of geographical area therefore everything is within easy reach. The Sagrada Familia area is very safe and is more residential than the other parts of the city like El Borne or Las Ramblas.

The metro in Barcelona is also fantastic, you can buy a 10 trip ticket for about €8 and it will take you to everywhere you need to go without having to spend too much time travelling. The website for accommodation is

They should be able to put you somewhere really nice for much less than the €225 than you are currently being quoted and much better quality too!

You would want to stay near La Rambla, the main touristy street. I stayed a Hotel Europark which was about three blocks from the upper Rambla on Diagonal Avenue. I like the location as I could be in the safest section of La Rambla with a four block walk and if I wanted more interesting and occasionally even seedy aspects of the city all I had to do was walk down towards the beach. the best area is in eixample, it is near the plaza catalunya (downtown), from there it is easy to take the metro, the bus or a taxi to go to your conference, in this area there are a lot of shops like the street la rambla catalunya, passeig de gracia, passeig del angels… and close to the tourist spots like la rambla. take note that eixample is very big district, try to stay between derecha eixample and izquierda eixample, may this link about hotels http://www.world-rt.com/travel/modest-ho… starting prices between 60 and 100 euros per night help you

Just returned from my honeymoon from Barcelona 3 days ago and we stayed on Universitat, about 2 blocks from Plaza Catalunya and the Ramblas. We walked on our street all the time and the surrounding area and felt very safe the whole time.
